British Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have conducted a mission with French aircraft in a combined operation on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory employed by the Daesh militant organization, according to the UK's MoD.

The facility, identified by intelligence, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was located in mountains just north of Palmyra in central Syria.

"Our fighter planes used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a number of approach shafts providing entry to the depot... initial indications suggest the strike was effective," officials stated.

There was no sign of any civilian impact in the operation late on Saturday and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.

The British jets were backed up by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.

Daesh - referred to as Daesh - enforced jihadist rule over large swathes of both Syria and Iraq prior to its 2019 collapse.

"This operation underscores our UK leadership, and determination to work closely with allied nations, to eliminate any revival of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the region," UK Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary stated.

RAF aircraft have carried out patrols over Syrian airspace to "forestall any attempted comeback" of IS subsequent to its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.

"I must thank the personnel of British forces participating in this operation for their expertise and their valour," he added. "They were among numerous British troops deployed over the holidays. This action, to remove terrorist threats who endanger our security, shows how UK forces are ready to step up, all year round, protecting the UK within its borders and influential overseas."

Last December, the US military executed what it termed a "major assault" against Daesh sites in the country, after an ambush killed two American soldiers and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.

The United Nations says IS still boasts roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in both countries.
