19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first professional victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
